NAME: Nami
AGE: 19 in canon, plus two in-game birthdays
CANON: One Piece Live Action
CANON POINT: Post season 1, plus about 18ish months of GP crau
CRAU: Previously, Nami spent the better part of two years in the casino which she will return to the game remembering. Because of her time in game, Nami formed the friendships and relationships she would have never allowed herself to have while under Arlong's thumb, and while still aloof as a whole, became a warmer person who could let others in. She played the resort's game all the way to a King rank while using her high paying hands to elevate her friends' ranks as well, protecting them from the resort's bullshit from a distance, her favorite way to be protective. Also, at one point during a recent event she saw the resort's heart, and was left with a regular heat cycle as a permenant aftereffect of that encounter.

SUITABILITY: Most importantly, logistically speaking, she is over the age restriction: canonically 19, and 21 in Peacock years. Otherwise, the casino's setting has always been a good one for Nami. She's a seasoned gambler, who is now very well-versed in the house's game, and will fall back into participating in the interest of getting a leg up once again. Her appreciation for luxury, comfort, and having the means to look after the people she cares about will keep her involved. Like with her first time in the game, the setting will lead her to situations where she will have to be perceived, and vulnerable, and while she had a lot of great steps towards accessing those feelings, I think there is a lot of room for the character to grow in the setting still.

HISTORY: cw: mentions of parental homicide, child abuse, and self-harm

• Nami spends her early childhood in rural Coco Village, raised alongside her adopted sister Nojiko by Belle-mere. Her childhood with her adopted family was peaceful but Nami's family is poor and Nami wants to learn more about the world.

• Stealing from a local bookstore causes a fight between mother and child resulting in Nami running off. Just as the pair manage to talk again the Arlong Pirates arrive.

• Belle-mere is killed by Arlong in front of Nami and Nojiko as an example to others about what happens when Arlong's demands are not met.

• Nami strikes a deal with Arlong, agreeing to join his crew to draw maps and sea charts to help him expand his grip on the East Blue. In exchange she could buy back Coco Village and freedom of people living there for 100 million berry.

• Eight years of robbing pirates and running cons later, Nami crosses paths with Luffy and Zoro in Shells Town. She and Luffy steal a map to the Grand Line (something Nami had been tasked with by Arlong).

• Nami stays with Luffy and Zoro while they travel to the Grand Line, but refuses to officially join. A stop in Syrup Town leaves them with a new member and a ship.

• The group reaches Baratie, a floating restaurant in the Sambas Region. After a run-in with the Marines and the revelation that Vice-Admiral Garp is Luffy's grandfather, Nami feels a renewed urgency to return to the Conomi Islands and Arlong with the map.

• Intending to double-cross the Straw Hats, Nami's plans are delayed by Zoro's decision to challenge Dracule Mihawk to a duel. Nami stays to be there for Zoro in the aftermath.

• After Arlong arrives at Baratie and Luffy engages in a near-fatal battle with him, Nami intercedes, revealing her betrayal and leaving the group with Arlong and the map.

• The Straw Hats follow Nami to the Conomi Islands to get her back, but Nami tells them she never wants to see them again. With the help of Nojiko they put together the pieces of Nami's past and her reasons for her "betrayal".

• The sisters cross paths in Belle-mere's orchard, where Nami is digging up her cache of berry. Nami finally opens up about what she's been doing the last eight years while letting everyone believe she had willingly joined Arlong.

• Captain Nezumi a Marine in Arlong's pocket, comes claiming he was there looking for stolen property and says the 100 million berry was it. Realizing that it was Arlong behind this, Nami takes off for Arlong Park, knowing he will destroy the village now that he has her money and the map.

• Completely hopeless, Nami harms herself at the spot where Arlong had her tattooed as a child. She is stopped by Luffy, and after trying one more time to make him leave, she finally admits she needs help.

• A final confrontation with the Straw Hats takes down the fish-men and brings Arlong Park crumbling down. Nami says goodbye to her sister and officially joins the Straw Hat Pirates as their navigator.

ABILITIES:

Cartography: Possibly the best map-maker in the East Blue, Nami’s natural talent for drawing maps was honed, painfully, during her years with Arlong, charting out almost every island and military base in the ocean he sought to dominate.

Navigation: While her expertise is centered around nautical navigation; a science that draws from everything around a boat, from the stars above to the surrounding waves to chart course, Nami is highly skilled at finding her way regardless of terrain.

Crime: She's a hustler, baby. And 100 million berry does not make itself. In canon, Nami’s good with her hands and has demonstrated an ability to crack safes and pick locks as well as pockets, in addition to the sleight-of-hand required to cheat through games of cards. She's also an established sweet-talker, relying on her quick wits to help talk her way out of a sticky situation, or charm someone into giving them what she's after.

Staff-Fighting: She’s nowhere near the toughest fighter among the Straw Hats, but Nami is skilled with her bo staff, which helped her not only incapacitate the guards who might have blown her cover when she infiltrated the Marine base in Shells Town but fend off waves of them alongside Luffy and Zoro while the three later made their escape..

VICES:

Greedy: Nami loves money, and while this stems from her mother being killed because they didn’t have enough to pay off the Arlong Pirates when she was a child, even as an adult she’s easily drawn towards the promise of making a profit. She will make bets, bankrupt her crewmates over cards, and be easily swayed to undertake ventures she would ordinarily write off as risky if there’s money to be made at the end.

Manipulative: Situations that tilt towards her advantage are her favorite, and Nami doesn’t mind doing what she can to help her odds, even when it means deceiving others. Quickly adopting a fake story, or a false opinion to get what she wants comes easily to her, and her knack for putting on the charm makes the lies she tells unblinkingly land all the sweeter.

Stubborn: Nami’s stubbornness manifests itself in a variety of ways, from the inability to ask for her help until being presented with circumstances she absolutely could not tackle by herself, to her readiness to start an argument if she feels like she’s right, Nami believes her way is the right way.

VIRTUES:

Protective: She may not be the strongest, but Nami will do anything in her power to keep the people she loves safe. Everything Nami did, going under Arlong’s control and cutting herself off the people who cared about her, Nami did out of a sense of protectiveness for the people who survived the pirate's initial attacks, and for the sister she abandoned in an attempt to save them all. With her crew, her protectiveness usually manifests itself through nagging and bossing them around, trying to keep them in line and alive, but when the stakes are high and their lives are on the line, she will readily try to argue her way into them seeing reason and playing it safe.

Quick-thinking: When the plan goes awry, Nami can be counted on for her ability to think quickly on her feet. As navigator, she relies on this trait to steer Merry (and her crew) out of dangerous waters and away from cannon fire, as a thief she relied on her cleverness to get her out of tight situations and evade capture, such as when Axe-Hand Morgan caught her and Luffy in his base in Shells Town, forcing Nami to have to adopt a quick cover story to keep them both out of the brig.

Practical: Feeling at her best when there’s a plan in motion, maps, charts, plans, and information are all things Nami will base her choices on. Not one for flying blind and even less inclined towards the leaps of faith others in her crew are happy to lean into, Nami is the sensible one. She’s the one setting the course and then keeping everyone else aboard on track, breaking up the stupid arguments the rest of her crew like to get into, and serving as the voice of reason when the stakes are high, because the Straw Hats may be idiots, but, they’re her idiots, and someone has to bring logic and reason to the table sometimes.

SUIT REQUESTS: I really loved her as Clubs, it was the perfect choice for a character as in her own head as Nami and I would be very happy to return to it (also her weird little hate/love/hate thing with Clubs was always a good time). She is a cerebral character, and the effects of Clubs' influence on her mind never left me lacking in material to work with during suit flares. Recklessness was a big favorite for me to write on, because she's just so practical, but forcing truthfulness on her in the event of a suit flare was always very fun as well. Barring that, I think Hearts would also be a good time for someone who still manages to be as emotionally avoidant as Nami does. This suit would have the potential to effect and draw out feelings Nami has experienced and tried to squish down like jealousy, the darker side of her occasionally narcissistic traits, or on the lighter end of things, turn her into a romantic, something that would otherwise take a long time for her to be comfortable being.
RANK REQUESTS: I would strongly prefer to have her be somewhere on the highish end, but I don't want her to return to her previous king status, because ranking herself up is a project she'll jump into with both feet. Somewhere between a seven and jack would be great, but ultimately for the sake of fun, I would not want her to be anything below a five.
