( because sanji's now looking at him and because he asked him who the hell he thinks he is, he mutters the words 'first mate' out like it's supposed to give him the authority to order them around -- wrong. he follows that by silently mouthing 'waiter' next, like it's the biggest insult ever. mostly, he knows that always riles the idiot up. next, he turns his steely gaze on nami, ignoring how she's rifling through her rucksack in search of who knows what; annoyed that she's got the besotted cook on her side, which means his demands are likely to be ignored and they're gonna be stuck with this one bed situation. )
Don't act like it's a fucking privilege to be allowed to sleep by your side, madam. ( his words cut through like a knife. he's still upset about how he'd missed that damn merchant and somehow these two are getting the brunt of it. but also, what the hell is nami doing? they've been messing around, sure, but he thought they had an unspoken agreement to keep things between them, so what's with her acting like it's no big deal for them to be sharing a bed? his gaze flits to sanji momentarily because they'd also been fooling around, but they get on each other's nerves a lot so no one's the wiser, right? )
... I'll take the floor. ( he lowers the burlap sack from his shoulder and pulls out two bottles of beer from it, leaving the rest on the bed, and as he's getting up, he brushes his fingers over nami's wrist in the subtlest of gestures, a silent apology to her for the harshness of his comment before he goes to sit in the corner, facing the door. he's aware he might have made the situation a little awkward, but hopefully the cook can get back to his usual programming of flattering the girl instead of ruffling his feathers. )
[ it's not like he anticipates any of this actually going smoothly, considering that interactions between he and zoro typically always result in the tense continuation of an argument until one or the other steps outside the room. there have been exceptions, of course, but that usually involves tongues going down each other's throats and fondling hands, both of which are entirely out of the question with nami in the room.
ignoring zoro's childish retorts, sanji keeps his attention on the more respectable presence in the room, already prepared to abide by all of her instructions, keen on being able to sleep by her side â until the final suggestion gets a raised brow from him. he and nami have done plenty beyond sleeping, but in a similar fashion that he's not going to do anything with zoro with nami around, he's also obviously not going to do anything with nami with zoro around. ]
Hey, have a little more damn respect, you idiot â [ is what he starts to snap at the swordsman following his sharper response, straightening up where he stands in preparation to defend nami against zoro's typical rudeness.
but his eyes follow that touch, that touch, so slight he almost misses it, stilling him as his eyes follow between the two. it shouldn't mean anything, but sanji's caught on nami's words again, on why she'd even suggest it in the first place, if she isn't â no, they couldn't be. but even if that were the case, it's not like she'd actually try to mix them together, not when everyone knows that he and zoro can't tolerate one another. most of the time. the point is that she's not supposed to know. no one is. ]
Nami. [ he calls out quietly, his thumb brushes over his lip thoughtfully as he brings his eyes back to her. ] What ... exactly do you mean about ... 'beyond sleeping'?
[ She's still glaring daggers at Zoro when she feels his fingertips trace the inside of her wrist before he withdraws and moves to the floor, but for just a split-second those daggers are slightly less sharp. She's still pissed, and she acknowledges that fleeting motion for the minuscule apology that it is, but he's still being a dickhead.
Unlike Zoro, she's not going to take her annoyance out on Sanji, though she still looks exasperated when her gaze flicks towards him, glancing at him with a frown before she turns back to her bag. Now that Zoro isn't in grabbing distance, Nami pulls out a bottle of rum and a deck of cards, talking over her shoulder at Sanji while she moves around the room, heading towards a tray of mugs. ] Oh please. [ Yeah, they've probably all had their own conversations about discretion for the sake of (in Nami's case anyway) peace and quiet, but at least in her opinion, these two aren't as subtle about each other as they think they are. ]
Don't act like you two don't look at each other the same way you both look at me sometimes. I think it's pretty obvious what we've all been doing with each other - I can't believe I'm the only one here who's noticed. [ That's not exactly explaining what she meant by saying what she did, but it certainly does clear up some of the motives behind it. For now, that's all Sanji's getting from her.
She pours out a reasonable amount of rum among three mugs, passing one off to the cook before carrying the other two back by the bed, sitting down on the floor as she looks towards Zoro. ] Hey.
[ Nami sets one of the mugs down by where she's sitting, taking a drink from her own before putting it down as well and moving to shuffle her cards. ] Rum's over here, and we need a third. [ Looking up towards Sanji, she tilts her chin at a spot of floor by the one she's left Zoro's drink, wordlessly indicating that he should sit. ]
