( because sanji's now looking at him and because he asked him who the hell he thinks he is, he mutters the words 'first mate' out like it's supposed to give him the authority to order them around -- wrong. he follows that by silently mouthing 'waiter' next, like it's the biggest insult ever. mostly, he knows that always riles the idiot up. next, he turns his steely gaze on nami, ignoring how she's rifling through her rucksack in search of who knows what; annoyed that she's got the besotted cook on her side, which means his demands are likely to be ignored and they're gonna be stuck with this one bed situation. )

Don't act like it's a fucking privilege to be allowed to sleep by your side, madam. ( his words cut through like a knife. he's still upset about how he'd missed that damn merchant and somehow these two are getting the brunt of it. but also, what the hell is nami doing? they've been messing around, sure, but he thought they had an unspoken agreement to keep things between them, so what's with her acting like it's no big deal for them to be sharing a bed? his gaze flits to sanji momentarily because they'd also been fooling around, but they get on each other's nerves a lot so no one's the wiser, right? )

( he lowers the burlap sack from his shoulder and pulls out two bottles of beer from it, leaving the rest on the bed, and as he's getting up, he brushes his fingers over nami's wrist in the subtlest of gestures, a silent apology to her for the harshness of his comment before he goes to sit in the corner, facing the door. he's aware he might have made the situation a little awkward, but hopefully the cook can get back to his usual programming of flattering the girl instead of ruffling his feathers. )
