It's so weird, right? Kind of miss the snails. Karsa said we can use them to talk and see each other too. Still figuring out how much of her, and this, we should trust though.

it doesn't make the same noise they do when we get messages. and we can see each other with these someone was showing me when i arrived.

sounds like they have more to gain with our trust than without it?

I met a lady who needs to make a map of old Ephes, I told her I'd do it for her, obviously we need a copy if we're going to figure out where we are.

[ Nami hits said button and - Luffy gets an extreme closeup of her nose for a second before she pulls back to type. ]

(Ah, Nami found the button and Luffy is thrilled to bits, he's been buzzing over this for a while and he switches his own video on in response. He's just not figured out he doesn't need to shout his words over, so he's a tad louder than normal.)

[ She pulls the thing back from her face, frowning at the image of Luffy. Nothing at home does anything like this.

And since he's shouting, Nami assumes she has to shout as well, the talk of Old Ephes momentarily forgotten. ]

I can see you too! Weird!

Isn't it?? It's like we're in the same room talking!! But not!! And we can do this anywhere anytime!!

Someone said there was a way to make it so you could speak but not show your face and I don't know why anyone would want to.

(It's a mystery.)

[cartographie]

But we have to yell? [ Not exactly the most discrete means of communication if so, but admittedly it is quite cool. ]

( pauses before making a show of clearing his throat. ahem. time to talk normally. )

Can you hear me okay now?

[cartographie]

I can hear you.

[ Nami props her pendant-thing up so she can sit in front of it, and though she's talking normally now, she's still leaning in too close, trying to see him and get herself into the frame, not at all understanding how this is supposed to work even as she attempts. ]

Okay, can you hear me? See me?

(Luffy messes with his own device, sitting down cross-legged as he opts to hold his.)

Isn't this great? I mean it's a bit weird with no snails but at least we don't need to feed these ones. I don't think.

Karsa would have said if we did, I think.

[ It seems like it would be too important a detail to leave out of the mix, in all honesty. Nami tilts her head and frowns at the image of Luffy, propping her elbow on her thigh and her chin on her hand. ]

What do you think Usopp's doing?

I think so, besides what would you even feed these? And how?

(No, wait, he's getting distracted and the mention of Usopp thankfully drags Luffy back to the present.)

I hope he's okay, I can't imagine it's easy waking up and finding everyone else is gone. Maybe find his way back to Syrup village?

[ It's kind of a pain, thinking about how stalled their progress is going to be if they end up returning home only to have to go back to Syrup Village for the Merry and Usopp, but she supposes it's better than trying to imagine Usopp picking up the journey by himself. ]

Me too, wish he was with us. Good thing you couldn't see more of him on your poster.

[ Then, with a little smirk. ] I bet Kaya will be happy to see him. [ And, really, good for them. ]

It doesn't feel right that Usopp isn't here with us, but I know he'll be okay until we get back to him.

(Tilts his head at that comment before grinning.)

I know Kaya will look after him. He'll be eating all the good food and getting the good naps. I'm almost jealous.

Me too. [ Nami scrunches her lips up and looks down at her lap, shoulders slumping. ]

I'm sorry we're so lost Luffy.

There's no need to be sorry, we didn't ask to come here.

And how are you meant to draw a map of the world if you only go to places you know?

( Except in this case it's going to be worlds plural, but the point still stands. )

I thought I'd be drawing a map of just our world, but, looks like we get a few extra pages out of being here, huh?

Have you figured out what the hell is going on here, by the way?

Exactly! Maybe draw two, then you can leave one here for anyone else who shows up. I bet they'd really appreciate it.

And nope. I talk to the ladies at the docks but I still can't tell what's happening. Something about a vote?

After America takes me to Old Ephes I'll be making a couple of copies. I don't know who the hand is, and I probably don't care but they sound shady, and if they want a map of Old Ephes it's probably for an interesting reason, so we should have a copy too. For insurance.

Good idea, even if not for insurance but because it's just good to have. Your maps are the best. Did they say they were giving you anything for one?

(In all honesty Luffy would be shocked if the answer is no, if only because Nami is that good at haggling...)

Not yet. Considering how little we know about where we are or what's happening I figure getting information is a good place to start.
